Vol. 245 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

77.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to provide an electricity supply to the Dunbeacon, Ballydehob and Reenascreena areas of County Cork.

I am informed by the ESB that the area between Dunbeacon and Ballydehob is in the board's Dunbeacon rural area. It is not expected that supply will be offered to householders in this area, under the rural electrification planned post-development scheme, before mid-1971.

Reenascreena is in the board's Rossmore rural area which is at present being canvassed and it is hoped to begin construction work there later this year.

78.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the residents of Moy Upper, Cloonfad, via Ballyhaunis, County Roscommon, will be supplied with electric light.

I am informed by the ESB that Moy Upper, which is in the board's Ballinlough rural area, was re-canvassed under the rural electrification planned post-development scheme about two years ago. However, the householders in question did not accept the terms quoted to them during the recanvass.

It will be at least three years before the board will be able to undertake further work in this area.

Is the Minister aware of the reason why they did not accept it when it was offered two years ago?

The Deputy is speaking about a number of residents. I would not know the reason why they all did not accept.

The reply suggests that the Minister would not

I know that, due to Government action, inside the past two years electricity is being provided for those type of people at a far cheaper rate.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the residents of Marnellsgrove, Ballymoe, County Galway, will be supplied with electricity.

I am informed by the ESB that, according to their records, there are only two householders without supply in the townland of Marnellsgrove; they were not prepared to accept supply when the area was canvassed in 1964 under the rural electrification planned post-development scheme. However, if they now make application to the ESB office in Longford they will be quoted terms and, if these are acceptable, supply will be extended about three months later.
