Vol. 245 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Detection of Eye Defects.

7.

asked the Minister for Health what provisions are available for the detection of eye defects or diseases or the supply of suitable spectacles (a) at clinics and (b) on a domiciliary basis in the Dublin Health Authority area.

Under arrangements made by the Dublin Health Authority adults and children eligible for ophthalmic service are examined by ophthalmologists conducting clinics at the out-patient departments of the major public hospitals in the area. Spectacles, if considered necessary, are prescribed at these clinics and are supplied by the optician under contract with the health authority for the supply of spectacles under the health services.

A limited domiciliary service is provided for those few who are unable to attend an ophthalmic clinic because of infirmity or their state of health.
