Vol. 372 No. 13

Written Answers. - Imported Peat Briquettes.

110.

asked the Minister for Energy the investigations, if any, made into recent newspaper reports that a company (details supplied) in County Monaghan was selling imported peat briquettes from Finland, which may have been contaminated by radiation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that a County Monaghan firm had imported peat briquettes from Finland. Samples of the briquettes have been analysed by the Nuclear Energy Board for radioactivity. The results have shown that there was negligible radioactivity present in the briquettes.
