asked the Minister for Health the number of vehicles which are owned by his Department, or by agencies or State boards under his aegis; and the number of these vehicles which are capable of using lead free petrol.
Written Answers. - State Owned Vehicles.
The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. However, I have recently asked all health agencies under my aegis to examine the matter with respect to vehicles owned by them with a view to changing over, to the maximum extent possible, to the use of lead free petrol. In addition, I have asked that all health sector employees be encouraged to pursue this objective, where feasible, in respect of their own personal transport.
I am satisfied that this policy will be implemented by the various agencies having regard to such factors as the availability of lead free petrol throughout the country, the life span of existing vehicle fleets and the overall policy in relation to the purchase of new vehicles. I will keep the matter under regular review.
