Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Potato Supply.

James Leonard

Question:

50 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the steps, if any, being taken to ensure that an adequate supply of a suitable variety of potatoes is being produced for the manufacture of frozen chips and crisps in view of the current level of imports. [14453/95]

The main variety used for the production of frozen chips and crisps is Record and adequate supplies of the variety are available. Research programmes of Teagasc include the examination of growing techniques of other varieties with a view to adapting their qualities for the requirements of fresh chips and crisps.
