Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commuter Services.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

132 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the number of applications received in her Department since 1997 from private coach operators for licences to operate commuter services in the greater Dublin area; and the number of licences granted. [25527/99]

Since January 1997 my Department has received 32 applications for licences to operate bus services in the greater Dublin area which could possibly be used by commuters. One licence has been granted to Last Passive to provide a premium service for passengers who either embark at or disembark at Dublin Airport.

In July 1999, I also gave approval in principle for issue of two licences to Crosson Truck and Bus, to operate bus services between Dublin Airport and Howth Junction railway station and between Swords and Leixlip via the airport and the M50.

As Crosson Truck and Bus has not yet provided copies of valid public service vehicles licences for the buses to operate these services, neither licence has been granted as yet to that operator.
