Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Arson Attacks.

Tony Gregory

Question:

406 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the gardaí in the Bridewell, Dublin 7 have investigated two arson attacks on private cars in the Dublin 7 area (details supplied); the progress, if any, they have made; and the action they are taking to prevent any such recurrence. [18286/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that at approximately 6 p.m. on 29 May 2000, the gardaí were called to the scene of a car on fire at Queen's Street. I am also informed that on 31 May 2000 at 6.23 p.m, the gardaí attended the scene of another car on fire at the Haymarket.

I am further informed that both of these incidents are still currently under investigation by the gardaí at the Bridewell and that, to date, no person has been made amenable. I understand that, at present, no link has been found to connect the two incidents.

The Garda authorities have informed me that the areas referred to in the Deputy's question are the subject of ongoing Garda attention from mobile, foot and community police and divisional task force patrols. I understand that all areas where there are particular ongoing problems are targeted, and the policing needs of these areas are kept under constant review.
