Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion Strategy.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

92 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he is considering a national coastal erosion remedial works strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29507/00]

Coastal protection requirements, including the need for remedial works, are addressed on an ongoing basis through my Department's coastal protection programmes. The national development plan provides funding of £35 million for protection works and related research in the period 2000-06.

The coastal protection programme for 2001 will be announced early next year.
