Vol. 535 No. 5

Written Answers - Public Order Offences.

Jim Higgins

Question:

187 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of incidents of drinking in public places in the Riversdale area, Palmerstown, Dublin 20, which have been reported to the Garda, the number of charges brought and the number of convictions in respect of same since 1 July 2000. [13083/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since 1 July 2000, there have been 50 reported incidents of drinking in public places in the Riversdale area of Palmerstown, Dublin 20. Of these incidents, 45 were dealt with under the provisions of section 8 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, where offenders were cautioned to leave the area, with which I understand they complied. In five cases, offenders were referred to the juvenile liaison scheme.
