Vol. 535 No. 5

Written Answers - Property Negotiations.

Jim Higgins

Question:

188 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department is in negotiation with the owners of a property (details supplied) in Dublin 20 for the purchase of same with a view to accommodating asylum seekers; if so, the financial consideration involved and the terms and conditions under which any such arrangements will apply. [13084/01]

The Reception and Integration Agency, into which the Directorate for Asylum Support Services was subsumed with effect from 2 April 2001, is responsible, inter alia, for meeting the accommodation needs of asylum seekers. The agency has no plans at this point to provide accommodation for asylum seekers at the property referred to by the Deputy.
