Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

311 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the average number of patients lying on trolleys in the accident and emergency unit in Cork University Hospital; the average length of stay for patients on these trolleys; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23972/01]

The provision of hospital services at Cork University Hospital is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer at the board to write directly to the Deputy outlining the present position in relation to the issues raised.

Planning for a new accident and emergency department at Cork University Hospital is at an advanced stage. This development will greatly expand the space available at the hospital to deal with patients attending the accident and emergency department.
