Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Primary Care Funding.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

229 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children if onerous rota funding for 2002 will be provided to doctors in rural areas as in the past; and if this system of onerous rota funding by the Western Health Board will be continued in 2002 particularly in areas such as Cárna, Roundstone, Ballyconneely, Cleggan and other isolated areas in County Galway. [31728/01]

Moneys previously provided to health boards in respect of rota arrangements will continue to be allocated in 2002. It is hoped with the national roll out of GP co-operatives by the end of 2003, as per the primary care strategy, the whole issue of out of hours cover will be satisfactorily addressed and this will be of considerable benefit to general practitioners in rural areas such as those mentioned by the Deputy.
