Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

David Stanton

Question:

268 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the directives issued by his Department regarding metering of sewage; the towns selected for such metering; the cost of individual meters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31714/01]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 110 of 6 November 2001.

The water services pricing policy framework advised to local authorities is intended to result in the metering of water supplied to all non-domestic customers and the application of a charge, based on the volume supplied, to recover the cost of providing water and waste water services to such customers. There is thus no specific require ment for the metering of sewage. The practical arrangements to give effect to metering are a matter for each relevant local authority.
