Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Libraries.

Seán Haughey

Question:

111 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department has a library or if another library comes under the aegis of his Department; the way in which staff are recruited to such libraries; if there are vacancies at the present time; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7638/02]

There is a library in the Department of Foreign Affairs. The position of librarian is filled by open competition and the appointee is on a fixed-term contract. All other staff in the library, five in number, are permanent civil servants.

The Agency for Personal Service Overseas, APSO, and the National Committee for Development Education, NCDE, are bodies which come under the aegis of the Department of Foreign Affairs. Both of these bodies have a shared library or resource centre in the office building which they share with the development co-operation division of my Department. The resource centre is operated by APSO and is staffed by its own permanent staff members. There are no vacancies in either of these libraries at the present time.
