Vol. 552 No. 3

Written Answers. - Semi-State Sector Remuneration.

Phil Hogan

Question:

175 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the remuneration details applicable to a person (details supplied) in respect of: (i) his executive chairmanship, recently terminated, of CSID; (ii) his current membership of the Board of CSID; (iii) his termination of his CSID executive chairmanship - compensation if any, paid or to be paid; and (iv) his executive chairmanship of a company (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12615/02]

On 26 March 2002, the position of executive chairman of Campus and Stadium Ireland Development Limited – CSID Limited – was abolished and was replaced by separate posts of chairman of the board and chief executive. The former executive chairman remains on the board of CSID Limited as a director for which he is paid the normal director's fee. No compensation was paid to the individual in question as a result of the change.

On appointment as executive chairman of CSID Limited in May 2000, his remuneration paid by CSID Limited was set at €39,997 per annum in respect of this position. The total level of remuneration paid by the Exchequer is in compliance with the Department of Finance regulations for retired civil servants, which prescribe that remuneration for all civil service posts, including pension, cannot exceed the level of salary before retirement.

The former executive chairman also had the use of a car during the time he acted in that capacity for CSID Limited. I have been informed by CSID Limited that the executive chairman incurred €18,364.40 in expenses during 2001, in respect of his duties at CSID Limited. The question of pension contributions did not arise and there were no other benefits to which the executive chairman was entitled.
