Vol. 552 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

109 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he has satisfied himself that targets in the NDP remain attainable in view of the likely budgetary situation in the medium term; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12571/02]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 2 today which set out the position as regards implementation of the national development plan. Ongoing implementation of the plan will have to take account of the prevailing budgetary situation and this was clearly signalled in the plan as published. I assure the Deputy that the Government will continue to give priority in resource allocation to the NDP, especially the infrastructure programme of the plan. Physical progress has been good to date in the implementation of the infrastructure programme and the priority which the Government will continue to give to the area should assure that this will be maintained over the remainder of the plan. A comprehensive assessment of progress will take place under the mid-term review next year.
