Vol. 575 No. 5

Written Answers. - Company Takeovers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

87 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to difficulties in a company (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28759/03]

Prumerica Systems Ireland, Limited, which is based in Letterkenny, is a subsidiary of Prudential Financial Inc. It employs 270 persons in software development and maintenance for the corporate information technology group. The Prudential property and casualty operations centre was established in Letterkenny in 2001. It employs about 100 persons in general insurance business such as policy processing and claims handling. Prudential Financial Inc. has signed an agreement with Liberty Mutual and Palisades for the sale of its property and casualty insurance businesses. The deal is due to close at the end of this month. As part of the deal, it was agreed that Prumerica will continue to support the Prudential property and casualty operations centre's Irish-based activity. It will also provide transition services to the new owners, pending its re-location to the US and Prumerica's development of alternative activities here. It is not anticipated that employment in the Irish operations will be adversely affected by these developments.
