Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine for separate discussions on Pre-Agriculture and Fisheries Council, and Ash Dieback Report

25 Oct 2023, 10:30

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet at 5.30pm today for separate engagements on the Pre-Agriculture and Fisheries Council, and the Ash Dieback Report.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions to hear from:

5.30pm-7.30pm – Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine for Pre-Agriculture and Fisheries Council engagement;

7.30pm-8.30pm – Representatives from the Limerick Tipperary Woodland Owners Ltd (LTWO) to discuss the Report of the Independent Review Group into the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s response to Ash Dieback.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The Committee welcomes this important engagement with Minister McConalogue ahead of his attendance at the meeting with his European counterparts. Members are particularly interested in discussing the proposed quotas that will be available to Ireland’s fishing communities in 2024.

“In our second session, we look forward to hearing from the Limerick Tipperary Woodland Owners on their response to the independent review report on the Department’s response to Ash Dieback. While the LTWO have welcomed the report and its recommendations, its members clearly have concerns about how the recommendations will be implemented and the Department’s lack of urgency in treating Ash Dieback as a national emergency.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
