Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

315 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has concluded the arrangements with Galway Corporation for the purchase of a site at Thomas Hynes Road, Galway, for the Galway school project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11327/99]

Arrangements are currently being made for the acquisition of a site for the purposes of providing new premises for the Galway school project. My Department is not in a position at present to indicate when these arrangements will be finalised.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

316 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding his announcement that the Department will finance the purchase of sites for new schools or school extensions; in whose name the sites will be vested; the position regarding the proposal to construct a new school in Aghina, County Cork (details supplied); and the position regarding the purchase of the site. [11328/99]

It is intended that ownership of school sites purchased under the new funding arrangements I announced on 10 January 1999 will be vested in the Minister for Education.

In relation to Aghina, it is proposed to provide a new school at this location. Before the site is purchased, a comprehensive site report will have to be carried out to address issues such as suitability, planning permission, access, availability of services, etc. Arrangements are being made to have this undertaken as quickly as possible.
