Vol. S2 No. 3

PUBLIC HOUSE LICENCES.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether applications for transfer of public-house licences will in future be made in Dáil Courts.

Whether the motor taxes will be collected and by whom?

The reply to the first part of the question is, I am not aware whether such applications will be made, but the Dáil Courts have not hitherto had any licensing jurisdiction and I think both sides of the House will agree that it is not in the public interest that any new licensing authority should be set up during the transition period, or without very careful consideration.

As to the second question regarding motor taxes, the Provisional Government has already arranged that the right formerly held by local authorities to issue motor licences will immediately revert to them.

The implication should not be taken from reading the first question that I want to know where applications can be made for the opening of new publichouses.

My answer covers everything dealing with licences.

Your reply suggests an implication which does not arise.
