Politics and society live experiences

Politics and society class visiting Leinster House

Politics and society live experiences

Senior cycle politics and society students are invited to take part in live experiences from either their own classrooms or a visit to Leinster House:

  • The Leinster House visit includes a tour of the Dáil and Seanad Chambers. The students then hold their own debate in one of the Committee rooms, usually on one of the four titles issued for the citizenship project. Some of your local TDs might even drop in for a chat.
    (90 minutes approx)
  • Leinster House virtual visit A virtual tour of Leinster House and a look at the live debates in the Dáil, Seanad and Committees. Students then participate in a workshop on parliamentary politics with time to discuss topics of their choice and ask questions.
    (90 minutes approx)
  • Ceann go Ceann video conference Students and teachers have the chance to speak directly to the Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, and ask him all their questions about Irish politics and the Oireachtas.
    (40 minutes approx)

TY experience weeks

Transition year work experience weeks take place during the 2023-24 school year and are a combination of online and onsite work.

Applications are now closed for this year's entry but check back for details of the programme in advance of the 2024-2025 school year.

Science of opinion polls

Help senior cycle politics and society students understand how opinion polls are constructed and how to analyse and interpret them.
