Find out about how we are commemorating significant events in the history of the Houses of the Oireachtas as part of the Decade of Centenaries.
Seanad100
In 2022 we mark the centenary of Seanad Éireann, the Upper House of Ireland's Parliament. The Seanad held its first public sitting on 11 December 1922 in Leinster House.
The Treaty Debates
In 1921 and 1922 we commemorated the Dáil debates on the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
The discussion on the Treaty was the most significant debate in the history of the Dáil. It was a crucial moment in Ireland’s history that set a new path for Ireland.
Dáil Éireann 1919-2019
In 2019 we commemorated the centenary of the First Dáil. On 21 January 1919, the First Dáil held its first public sitting. The elected members who gathered there declared Ireland to be a Republic and a sovereign independent state.
Vótáil 100
In 2018, we commemorated the centenary of the parliamentary vote for women in Ireland. 1918 was the first time Irish women were permitted by law to vote and stand in parliamentary elections.
Papers of the early Dáil
The documents of the Dáil during its revolutionary period (1918-1923) are now available online. The collection, comprising more than 66,000 pages, was digitised by the National Archives of Ireland in partnership with the Houses of the Oireachtas as part of the centenary of the First Dáil.
