Vol. 6 No. 7

DAIL IN COMMITTEE. - COURT OFFICERS (TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS) BILL, 1923.—THIRD STAGE.

Sections 1 to 9 put and agreed to.
SCHEDULE.
Motion made and question proposed:—"That this be the Schedule to the Bill."

I should like to ask a question as to how Civil Bill Officers will be dealt with under this Bill. At present they are paid yearly salaries, but they are Officers of the Court now to be extinguished, and I should like to know what is to be their future. They are not mentioned in this Bill at all, and I would like to know how the Government propose to deal with them when the Courts of which their Officers are abolished and this Bill comes into law?

There is no difficulty about filling the places which were filled hitherto by Civil Bill Officers. They are only temporary Officers, and could be dismissed or appointed as the occasion arose. They do not come under this Bill at all, which only deals with pensionable officers.

Question put and agreed to.
