Vol. 9 No. 27

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - AN EYRECOURT DECREE.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the decree made in September, 1924, in favour of Mr. Thomas Daly, Eyrecourt, Co. Galway, has yet been received in his Department, and if so, whether payment of amount of same will be expedited?

The decree referred to has not yet been received in my Department.

Mr. COSGRAVE

When, on a previous occasion, I asked the Minister who was responsible, he stated the solicitor was. Now, the solicitor denies that he was accountable and he has written me to that affect. If I have permission, I can read the solicitor's letter. It was a most unfair statement for the Minister to make. The solicitor carried out his duties all right, and sent on the decree of the judge.

In any case, my Department is not responsible in the least in regard to this matter.

Mr. COSGRAVE

On the last occasion when I asked a question about this matter, the Minister placed the responsibility on the solicitor. It was most unfair to the solicitor to make that statement.

I said presumably. I know that in very many cases the solicitors are actually responsible. If this particular solicitor is not responsible, I do not wish to make any charge against him.

Mr. COSGRAVE

Owing to the unsatisfactory reply of the Minister, I beg to give notice that I will raise this question on the adjournment.
