Vol. 10 No. 12

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - FEES FOR PREPARING VOTERS LISTS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether an Order was issued dated 20th March, 1919. fixing the fees for the preparation and revision of the Voters Lists in counties at 3d. per name, payable to the county secretary; whether dual fees amounting to 1/6½ per name are now paid in respect of the name of any person appearing on the Voters Lists, who is also shown thereon to be qualified as a Juror; whether as the yearly revision of the Lists now entails considerably less work, the Executive Council will dispense with the services of county secretaries as being redundant, or issue a new Order reducing the fees.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative. The present scales of Registration expenses were framed on 21st February, 1924, and represent a substantial reduction on the former fees. Section 8 (2) of the Juries (Amendment) Act, 1924, enacts that no fees are allowable in respect of duties under the Juries (Ireland) Acts to county secretaries appointed after 15th November, 1921. The expenses of revision are reduced, but it is not agreed that the services of county secretaries are redundant. In view of section 8 (2), previously quoted, the necessity for any scale dealing with duties under the Juries Acts disappears.
