Vol. 11 No. 8

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - COMPENSATION CLAIM (CO. WATERFORD).

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the claim made by William Ahearne, West Street, Lismore, for the hire of a Buick motor car commandeered in December, 1922, was disallowed, and whether he will reconsider his decision.

Mr. Ahearne's claim was disallowed on the ground that the car was seized as a precautionary measure, and was not used by troops. It was taken as a result of his being found in possession of the remains of another car, which he admitted were not his, and which he stated were left on the roadside by Irregulars. His own motor car was returned to him in the same condition as when taken. In the circumstances the claim cannot be reconsidered.
