asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of men, women, boys and girls whose applications for unemployment benefit since the commencement of the sixth benefit year, which started on October 15th, 1925, have been refused, and the grounds for the refusal.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REFUSAL OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT.
From the 15th October last to the 9th November (the latest date for which figures are available) applications for unemployment benefit have been received from:—
Men |
22,137 |
Boys |
291 |
Women |
3,639 |
Girls |
197 |
Total |
26,264 |
Of these, 18,152 have been allowed; 967 have been disallowed because the applicants had no unexhausted contributions to their credit; 912 were disallowed, either because less than 12 contributions had been paid in respect of the applicants since the commencement of the Act, or because the applicants were disqualified under the first part of Section 8 (4) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, and the disqualification had not been removed by the payment of 12 further contributions; 193 were disallowed on other statutory grounds; and 6,040 claims recently made were still awaiting decision on the 9th November.
I regret that separate statistics for men, boys, women and girls are not available in respect of the claims allowed and disallowed.
