Vol. 14 No. 4

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - THE BLACKWATER FISHERIES.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if it is proposed to hold an inquiry into the matter of the Blackwater Fisheries, No. 4 District, and, if so, whether the giving of evidence as to the construction of the King's Gap in the Lismore Weir, and the present method of working thereat, will be permitted; whether he has completed his inquiries regarding the election of a chairman for the Lismore district, and with what result.

Two applications for inquiries relative to the fisheries of the River Blackwater have been received. An inquiry will be held in due course into the question of the close season on the river. The other application is to hold an inquiry into the stock of salmon in the river, and the ground that it is injuriously affected by alleged illegalities at Lismore Weir, but the memorialists have, up to the present, failed to furnish further particulars for which they were asked. With regard to the question of alleged irregularities at the election of Conservators held at Fermoy, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me in this House on the 17th December last, to which I have nothing further to add.
