Vol. 15 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CASTLECOMER SCHOOL ATTENDANCE COMMITTEE OFFICERS.

asked the Minister for Education whether the attention of his Department was drawn to the nonpayment of salaries to the officers of the Castlecomer School Attendance Committee since the County Council of Kilkenny withheld the funds of the Committee as a result of a resolution passed by them in December, 1921, and whether, as these officers had never resigned their positions, nor were dismissed therefrom, they will be considered as existing officers and servants under the School Attendance Bill, 1925, for the purpose of compensation?

The question as to the payment of salaries by the Local Authority to officers of the Castlecomer School Attendance Committee appointed under the Irish Education Act, 1892, is not a matter which comes under my jurisdiction.

A communication was received from the Kilkenny County Council stating that the Castlecomer School Attendance Committee had ceased to function on the 31st December, 1921, and that the County Council did not propose to take any action in the matter. As the persons referred to in the question were not in receipt of salary as School Attendance Officers on the 1st November, 1925, it does not appear to be possible to regard them as existing officers under the School Attendance Bill for the purpose of compensation.
