Vol. 15 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CASTLECOMER BENEFIT CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a worker named William Doyle, Croghtenclogh, Castlecomer, who was unemployed for nine days, and who made application for unemployment benefit, was refused payment; if so, if he will state the reasons for the refusal, as it is stated that this man, who has been for close on thirty-four years working as a miner, always had his cards stamped and always worked when work was available, and if he will re-open the question and have his claim for £1 16s. 0d. again considered.

A claim to unemployment benefit, made by William Doyle of Croghtenclogh, Castlecomer, on the 25th February, 1926, was disallowed by the insurance officer under Section 8 (2) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, on the ground that the claimant had left his employment voluntarily and without just cause. The claimant appealed against the decision to the Court of Referees, which on the evidence before it recommended that the claim should be disallowed. The insurance officer agreed with this recommendation, and in the circumstances no benefit can be paid on the claim.
