Vol. 16 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLONCURRY ESTATE EMPLOYEE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he is aware that John Ennis, Cloncurry, Enfield, Co. Kildare, who was employed by Lord Cloncurry on the grazing farm of Ballinakill (Cloncurry Estate), for the last ten years, is unemployed since the 26th January, 1926, the date on which the Land Commission took over possession of the farm, and whether he will ask the Commissioners to consider this man's claim for a parcel of land to enable him to provide for his family as there is no other employment available in the neighbourhood.

The Minister regrets he has not yet got the necessary information concerning this case, but hopes to be in a position to reply on Friday next, if the Deputy will then repeat the question.

Would the Minister order a fairly general inquiry into conditions in that area? I received another letter from a man this morning stating that although he was working on this land all his life-time he cannot even get a day's work now. He is thrown out of employment the same as Ennis. I will just read a couple of short extracts.

The Deputy must not read any extracts.

They would be very useful.

Then give them to the Minister.
