Vol. 16 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PROPOSAL TO ENLARGE COTTAGE PLOTS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission has made any advances for the purchase of lands for the enlargement of plots attached to labourers' cottages held under the Labourers (Ireland) Act, 1883, and subsequent Acts, from one rood to one acre, as provided for in Section 2 of the Land Act, 1903, and, if not, whether he will instruct the Land Commission to take the necessary steps to have the plots enlarged in cases where such application is made.

Section 2 of the Land Act of 1903 referred to by the Deputy has been repealed, but a local council may make an application for an advance under Section 31 (1) (e) of the Land Act, 1923, to purchase a parcel of land to be held for the purpose of the Labourers Acts under an improvement scheme to be approved under those Acts by the Department of Local Government.
