Vol. 17 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISTRESS IN CO. CORK.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will have inquiries made as to the wholesale distress prevalent in Cape Clear and Hare Island, Co. Cork, with a view to alleviating such distress as far as possible.

I am having inquiries made on this matter, as suggested by the Deputy.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that acute distress bordering on destitution is prevalent at Adrigole, Co. Cork; whether he is aware that a Sergeant of the Gárda Síochána has been making inquiries with a view to the removal to Industrial Schools of a number of children of destitute parents, and whether, in view of the fact that many such people hold very small holdings and have not succeeded in obtaining home assistance, he will have inquiries made through an Inspector of his Department with a view to remedying to some extent the conditions prevalent in the district.

No representations have been made to me on this matter and I have no information in regard to the second part of the question. I am, however, having inquiries made as suggested by the Deputy.
