Vol. 19 No. 6

PRIVATE BUSINESS. - PUBLIC BUSINESS.

I propose to take to-day the whole of the time for public business.

since the President proposes to deny private members the time required for moving motions in their names, would he state when he would be prepared to allow time for the motion standing in my name? It is not a motion that would take much time.

I cannot answer that question until I see how far the public business will be disposed of. The motion in the Deputy's name is a motion dealing with a particular county. Therefore it is somewhat distinct from the ordinary business of private members, because every private Deputy might ask for time for discussion of a motion dealing with his constituency and that would take up a very considerable time. I have not been able to see the Minister for Lands and Agriculture with regard to this matter, but I hope to be able to state whether it will be possible to take it on Friday or not.

In view of the President's statement, that every Deputy could put down a motion like this dealing with his own constituency, I should like to say that Deputies are entitled to put down motions in order to obtain information relating to their constituencies which they could not obtain in any other way.

I am not disputing that. What I say is that it would take a considerable amount of time and that it would cost a considerable amount of money if the same claim were made in respect of every other constituency. I have not been able to see the Minister for Agriculture with regard to this matter and I do not know whether he is in agreement with me or not. I will undertake to state to-morrow whether the motion can be taken on Friday or not.
