Vol. 19 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LIFFEY BRIDGE (CO. KILDARE).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that as a result of another motor accident at the Liffey Bridge, Droichead Nua, County Kildare, on the Naas-Kildare Trunk Road, a little boy returning from school on the 27th April, 1927, was seriously injured, and whether he will, in order to avert such accidents and possible loss of life in future, now re-consider the necessity of widening and improving the bridge as soon as possible, and award a grant from the Road Fund for the purpose, thus giving much needed employment in the town.

The regrettable occurrence to which the Deputy refers was not due to any conditions affecting the existing bridge. In view of the large grants already allocated to County Kildare, further sums cannot be provided at present. I have arranged, however, that this bridge will have first consideration when the next allocation is being made to County Kildare.
