Vol. 32 No. 7

In Committee on Finance. - National Monuments Bill, 1929. Money Resolution.

I move:—

Go bhfuil sé oiriúnach a údarú go n-íocfar amach as airgead a sholáthróidh an tOireachtas aon chostaisí fé n-a raghaidh an tAire Airgid, an tAire Oideachais agus Coimisinéirí na nOibreacha Puiblí, fé seach, chun aon Acht do chur in éifeacht a rithfar sa tSíosón so, chun socrú do dhéanamh chun séadchomharthaí náisiúnta do chosaint agus do bhuan-chimeád agus chun rudaí ársa do bhuan-chimeád i Saorstát Eireann agus chun socrú do dhéanamh i dtaobh nithe eile a bhaineas leis na nithe roimhráite.

That it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys to be provided by the Oireachtas of any expenses incurred by the Minister for Finance, the Minister for Education and the Commissioners of Public Works, respectively, in carrying into effect any Act of the present Session, to make provision for the protection and preservation of national monuments and for the preservation of archæological objects in Saorstát Eireann and to make provision for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid.

This is a Bill in which it is not possible to estimate the amount of additional money that will be expended. It will, of course, depend on the amount of operations that will be carried on under the Bill. At present in the Estimate for 1929-30 there is a sum of £2,000 for the preservation of ancient monuments which comprise monuments in the charge of the Commissioners which are not vested in them under the Act of 1869. Then there is a sum invested under the Act of 1869 which provides an income of £845 3s. 6d., which is available for the maintenance of national monuments. That money is invested under the Act of 1869; so that at present there is available a sum of £2,845 3s. 6d. The amount therefore that is likely to be expended under the new Bill while it cannot be estimated is not likely to be very large.
