Vol. 34 No. 8

Public Business. - Civil Service (Transferred Officers) Compensation (Amendment) Bill, 1930—Second and Final Stages.

I move the Second Reading of this Bill. I explained on a previous occasion that the Tribunal had not been able to deal with the cases that had come before it. The Act provided that Civil Servants who gave notice to retire should retire on a date to be fixed by the Board within certain limits. Then it provided that for practically all the cases the period should not be later than four months after the passing of the Act. The Act was passed on the 17th December and that would mean that the Board would have to determine the cases in which the date of retirement would be not later than 17th April. There are a number of cases which it has not been possible to hear and it is necessary that the time should be extened in order that these cases should be dealt with by the Tribunal in the ordinary way.

Question agreed to. Bill read a Second Time.

If the Dáil were agreeable, I propose to take the remaining Stages to-day so that when the Seanad reassembles it can deal with the Bill at once.

Ordered: That the remaining Stages be taken to-day.
Bill put through Committee without amendment, received for final consideration, and passed. Message ordered to be sent to the Seanad.
