Vol. 36 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Construction and Relief Vote.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when the unemployment money recently voted in the Dáil is being allocated if certain amounts will be earmarked for the reconditioning of county by-roads, and for the construction of new roads to tap remote areas where farmers are at present compelled to take circuitous journeys to fairs and markets.

The works referred to by the Deputy would appear to be the responsibility of the local authorities concerned. The presence of distress in a district, however, must be the determining factor in the allocation to that district of a sum from the Relief Vote. The money will be spent on the most suitable work available then.
