Written Answers. - Dáil Eireann Loan—Subscribers' Repayments.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state if the subscription of Mr. Charles O'Shaughnessy, Main Street, Kilfinane, and Miss Mary Wallace, Ballygeagoge, Kilfinane, have been certified by the collectors, and, if so, whether he will explain the reason for delay in paying those subscribers.

Authority to issue Saving Certificates to Mr. Charles C. O'Shaughnessy, of Main Street, Kilfinane, and Miss Mary Wallace, of River View, Ballygeagoge, Kilfinane, in respect of sums subscribed by them to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, 1919-20, was given to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs on the 6th ultimo. I am informed that both these subscriptions have been repaid, Miss Wallace's on the 22nd ultimo and Mr. O'Shaughnessy's on the 27th idem.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state when it is proposed to repay subscribers to the Dáil Loan in the Frenchpark district, County Roscommon.

With one exception, particulars of subscriptions to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, 1919, by persons resident in the Frenchpark district were not furnished to the Dáil Department of Finance during the period in which the primary register of subscribers was compiled. Recently-compiled lists which have been received in my Department from this district were under investigation. The particulars given in these lists do not correspond with those contained in many of the individual applications for repayment and, in addition, a considerable number of applications have been received from persons in the district whose names are not included in the lists. Inquiries are being made in the matter and when the discrepancies referred to have been satisfactorily disposed of the question of repayment to individual subscribers will be considered without delay.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state when a certificate will be issued to Michael Burke, Fartown, Greggs, Co. Galway, for repayment of £l subscribed to the Dáil Loan, 1919-20.

The primary Register of subscribers to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, 1919-20, does not contain an entry of a subscription by Michael Burke, of Fartown, Creggs. His name, however, is included in a recently compiled list furnished to my Department. There are a number of discrepancies between the particulars contained in the list and those given by individual applicants. These discrepancies are being investigated and when they have been disposed of arrangements will be made for the issue of Savings Certificates to the persons whose names are entered on the list and who made application for repayment within the prescribed period.

asked the Minister-for Finance whether he will state if he has received in his Department a certificate from Mr. Michael Sheehy, a collector for the Dáil Eireann Loan (1919-1920) in favour of Patrick McDonnell, Carrig, Askeaton, Co. Limerick, who subscribed £l0, and, if so, will he state the reason why payment is being withheld, and, similarly, whether he will state the reason why the representatives of the late Patrick Barrett, of the same district, are not being paid.

(1) The particulars regarding the amount of his subscription furnished in Mr. Patrick McDonnell's application for repayment do not correspond with those contained in the records in my Department. A certificate was received from Mr. Michael Sheehy stating that Mr. McDonnell subscribed a sum of £l0 but this cannot be reconciled with entries in original documents in the possession of my Department. I am having further enquiries made. (2) Notwithstanding applications made by my Department for the death certificate of the late Mr. Patrick Barrett, the certificate has not been furnished. The deceased's representatives were also asked to furnish information regarding his assets with a view to determining whether probate of any will which he might have left or letters of administration of his estate should be produced. This information has not yet been furnished.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the reasons for delay in refunding contributions to Dáil Eireann Loan, 1919-20, to Mrs. Richard Smyth, Ballyshane, Cloyne (50435); John Smyth, Rochemond, Whitegate, Midleton (50425), and John Garde, of Inch, Whitegate (56413), and if he will state when payments are to be made to these subscribers.

(1) My Department has not received any application from Mrs. Richard Smyth, of Ballyshane, for repayment in respect of a subscription to the Dáil Eireann Loan. An application was, however, received from Mr. Jonas Smyth, Ballybranagan, Cloyne, who appears to be Mrs. Smyth's son. A form of application was forwarded to him for completion by Mrs. Smyth but was not so completed. I am having further inquiries made. (2) Mr. John Smyth, of Rochemount, Whitegate, did not make application for repayment before the final date prescribed by me in accordance with Section 4 (1) of the Dáil Eireann Loans and Funds Act, 1924, that is, prior to the 1st May, 1929. (3) A form for completion in connection with his subscription to the Dáil Eireann Loan was addressed to Mr. John Garde, of Inch, Whitegate, on the 12th August last. The envelope containing the form was returned to my Department on the 16th idem marked "Deceased." No further communication has since been received in connection with this subscription, and, accordingly, repayment has not been authorised.
