Vol. 37 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Subscribers to Dáil Loan.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state if he has in his Department a list of subscribers to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan (1919-1920) from Glenbrohane, Knocklong, Co. Limerick, duly certified by the collectors, and if it is his intention to place the names of those subscribers on the primary register.

A list of persons who are stated to have subscribed to the Dáil Eireann (Internal) Loan, 1919-20, in Glenbrohane, Knocklong, County Limerick, has been received in my Department. This list is certified by a collector and repayment has already been authorised in favour of the majority of the persons whose names are entered therin. The delay in authorising repayment in favour of the remainder is partly due to the fact that the collector, whose present address is not known, has failed to furnish a certificate as to the manner in which he disposed of the amount represented by the list and partly because the persons concerned either did not apply before the 30th April, 1929, or have so far failed to furnish satisfactory evidence in support of their claims.

Mr. Crowley

Will the Minister state whether there is any evidence in his Department that the money that was contributed by these subscribers was handed over by the official collector?

I could not answer that.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state if he has received in his Department a list of subscribers to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, 1919-1920, from Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick, which has been certified by the collectors, John T. O'Connor, James O'Connor and John O'Brien, all of Ballyhahill; whether this list includes £62 from Ballyhahill district, £42 from Mohernagh and Finnoe, £140 from Dromin, Clounleharde, Tennekilla and Fleanmore; and, if so, whether he will state if the subscribers have been entered on the primary register.

The list to which the Deputy refers was received in my Department from Deputy Nolan. The particulars which it contained have been slightly revised as a result of investigation, and the amounts represented by subscriptions from the districts specified appear to be approximately the same as those indicated in the second part of the question. Deputy Nolan was asked a few days ago to obtain from the collectors concerned affidavits as to the authenticity of the list in its revised form and, subject to any questions which may arise on the receipt of these affidavits, I anticipate that repayment will be authorised at an early date.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state if he has received from Kilmeedy, Co. Limerick, a list of subscribers to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, 1919-1920, certified by the collectors; whether this list has been accepted by his Department; and, if so, whether he can state how soon he proposes to pay the subscribers.

A list purporting to contain particulars of sums subscribed to the Dáil Eireann (Internal) Loan 1919-20 in Kilmeedy, Co. Limerick, has been received in my Department. The list, which is not certified by the collectors, has not yet been accepted as it does not appear to be complete and because no evidence has been furnished to show how the subscriptions collected in this area were disposed of. Inquiries are, however, being instituted in the matter.
