Vol. 42 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary Rights on Farranfore Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if, in view of the confusion and ill-feeling which is likely to arise during the harvesting of turf on the H.G. Leahy estate, Inchicummer and Bawnaglanna, Currow, Farranfore, he will send out an inspector to mark the individual boundaries already recorded on the map of the estate and make arrangements for the construction of necessary bog passages.

The Land Commission have no indication other than this question that friction is likely to arise in connection with turf cutting on this estate. Their records show that on the occasion of the sale of the estate under the provisions of the Land Act, 1903, certain holdings were vested in the tenants with rights of turbary on specified plots on the bog in Bawnaglanna. The sale was completed 25 years ago. Any question regarding the boundaries of the turbary plots is a matter for settlement between the parties themselves. A copy of the map of the turbary plots can be obtained on application to the Land Registry, and on payment of the prescribed fee.
