Vol. 48 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killaloe Sewerage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether sanction has been given for the provision of a sewerage scheme at Killaloe, County Clare, and, if so, whether he is aware that work is badly needed to provide employment for the unemployed in that area and that efforts should be made to expedite the commencement of the work.

The plans for this scheme have been approved and the Board of Health informed that tenders may be invited.

Mr. Burke

Is the Vice-President prepared to state what is the amount of the grant that may be expected towards the carrying out of that scheme?

The amount of the grant rests with the Minister for Finance, and the actual amount cannot be determined until some figures have been placed before the Minister as to the cost of the scheme. It will be necessary to have the relief portion voted by the Dáil before the Minister for Finance can make an allocation.

Mr. Burke

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Board of Health is not prepared to carry out the scheme unless 50 per cent. of the cost is given by the Government?

Mr. Hogan (Clare):

Would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate what he is prepared to recommend to the Minister for Finance as to the amount of the grant that should be given?

Not at this stage.
