Vol. 48 No. 15

Vote 15—Personal Injuries Compensation.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £1,375 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1934, chun íocaíochtanna áirithe Cúiteamh i dtaobh Leonta Pearsanta no Báis.

That a sum not exceeding £1,375 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1934, for certain payments of Compensation in respect of Personal Injuries or Death.

Does this arise out of the 1923 to 1926 Act?

No. This Vote is intended to meet the ex-gratia payments as regards recommendations in respect of deaths or injuries sustained.

Will the Minister say why these sums were not liquidated before this?

Because the provisions consist almost entirely of the annual amount of periodical loans made as a result of these Committees that were set up.

They are not paid annually?

They are not, because in a certain number of cases payment will automatically elapse; for instance, in the case of allowances to children until they reach a certain age, 16 years. They are not, therefore, in the nature of pensions.

With regard to the payment to children who are minor at the time the awards are made, is there any interest payable to the children on those sums?

These are annual allowances only.

Net annual allowances?

Vote 15 agreed to.
