Vol. 49 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Macroom Old Age Pension Claims.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the cause of the delay in hearing the applications of John Creedon, Aharas, Macroom, for an old age pension, and if he is aware that application for the pension was made on the 15th December, 1932.

In this case an uncompleted claim to pension was received by the pensions officer on the 1st of November, 1932. The claim was not duly completed until the beginning of February, 1933. Owing to extreme pressure of work, the officer did not report on the claim until the 3rd of May, 1933. By decision dated the 16th of May, 1933, the local pensions sub-committee granted a pension at the rate of 10/- a week as from the 16th of December, 1932. A pension book has been delivered and full arrears of pension paid.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the cause of the delay in hearing the application of Abina Walsh, Lomanagh, Coolea, Macroom, for an old age pension, and if he is aware that application for the pension was made on November 26th, 1932.

The claim in this case was received by the pensions officer on the 17th of October, 1932, was investigated on the 19th of June, 1933, and forwarded with the officer's report to the local pensions sub-committee on the 14th of July, 1933.

Owing to the operation of the Old Age Pensions Act, 1932, the officer had an extremely large number of claims to investigate since October last, and he arranged his official journeys so that the maximum number of claims could be dealt with in the shortest possible time. The claimant lives in a mountainous and sparsely populated area. For these reasons, there was delay on the officer's part.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the cause of the delay in hearing the applications of John Lynch and Nora Lynch, Togher, Macroom, for old age pensions, and if he is aware that applications for pensions were made in each case on October 8th, 1932.

Claims to pension were made on the 8th and 10th of October, 1932, respectively. The claims were first investigated by the pensions officer on the 19th of June, 1933, and he is still pursuing inquiries as to evidence of age of the claimants.
