Vol. 49 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployed Cork Drovers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a large number of men formerly engaged as cattle and pig drovers in Cork are, as the result of the economic war, now out of employment, and whether, as they are not entitled to relief from the Unemployment Fund, he will take steps to help these men out of their destitute position.

The total number of drovers registered at the Employment Exchange, Cork, on the 25th September last was 12, of whom eight were in receipt of unemployment benefit. It is open to any drovers in Cork who are unemployed to register at the Employment Exchange so that in the event of employment for which they are suitable being notified to the Exchange they may be considered for it. Subject to certain conditions, the Unemployment Assistance Bill at present before An Dáil makes provision for men of the class mentioned in the question.
