Vol. 60 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maintenance Cases in the Courts.

asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention has been called to the statement of one of the justices of the District Court to the effect that under the existing law a respondent in an action involving an application for a maintenance order in nine cases out of ten could snap his fingers at the complainant unless the aggrieved party was prepared to resort to the cumbrous and expensive procedure laid down under the Enforcement of Court Orders Act; whether he is aware that in such cases great hardship is inflicted on a meritorious complainant who is obliged to resort to the procedure referred to and whether in the circumstances he is prepared to introduce proposals for the purpose of affording redress in a more simplified and less expensive form to the aggrieved party.

Proposals for legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy are under consideration.
