Vol. 62 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Government Officers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that temporary clerks employed in the various employment exchanges of the Department of Industry and Commerce have been interviewed as regards means, likelihood of possible employment outside the Department, and other personal matters, with a view to discharge from the Department; if so, will he state what steps he proposes to take to find employment for those temporary officers who have been or are likely to be dismissed from the Government service through no fault of their own.

I am aware that temporary clerks employed in the various employment exchanges have been interviewed as regards their personal circumstances for the purpose of determining the order of discharge of redundant temporary staff so as to ensure the minimum of hardship on those who are dependent on their earnings. Every effort will be made by the employment exchanges, in the normal course of their duties, to place the discharged clerks in alternative employment.
