Vol. 65 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Flour-Milling Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in view of the failure to maintain the price of flour and bread at a reasonable figure, he will submit proposals to the Dáil for the State control of the flour-milling industry.

The price of batch bread is fixed by Orders made under the Bread (Regulation of Prices) Act, 1936, and I am satisfied that this price is a fair one having regard to the price of flour. In the matter of flour prices, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question addressed to me by Deputy Dillon on the 17th instant.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, can he say to what extent the tax put on imported wheat for which Deputy Davin voted is responsible for the increase in the price of flour and bread?

That is a separate question.
