Vol. 66 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Interference by Gárda in County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention was called to a resolution adopted at a public meeting held in Kilmeena, County Mayo, on the 4th instant alleging unjustifiable interference with the people of the district by the Gárda forces on the occasion of a visit to the local cemetery on Easter Sunday, and demanding that an impartial public tribunal with powers to compel the attendance of witnesses be appointed to investigate the charges alleged against the Gárda, and whether he will make any statement in regard to the matter.

I am informed by the Commissioner of the Gárda Síochána that he is investigating the charges made against the police in connection with the incident to which the Deputy refers, and that appropriate action will be taken when his investigation has been completed.
