Vol. 66 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Effect of Employment Act on Piece-Workers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received any representations regarding the working of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936, in so far as it affects piece-workers such as quarrymen, stonebreakers, etc., employed on road work who thereby suffer a loss in their earnings, and, if so, what action he is taking in the matter.

No direct representations of the nature referred to in the question have been made to my Department. The matter will be examined, however, following the receipt of representations which are expected, as a result of a meeting of officials of local authorities to be held this week, when the application of the provisions of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936, to road workers and other workers employed by local authorities is to be considered.
